Annual Asthma Review

We can now offer an annual telephone consultation with the practice nurse. This will cover all of the aspects of asthma management previously included in the 20-minute face-to-face appointment. There is also the option of using the video consulting service Near Me to assess and demonstrate inhaler technique, if required.

Asthma Control Test

To get the most from your asthma review, please complete this short questionnaire before your review appointment, and have the result to hand. This will help the nurse to assess how well your symptoms are managed on your current treatment.

Self-Management Plan

Everyone with asthma should have an action plan. People who have one are better equipped to manage their symptoms and so less likely to be admitted to hospital for their asthma. And with fewer asthma symptoms you’ll be less likely to need time off work or school.

If you already have a self-management plan for your asthma, please have this with you when you have your review.

If you do not have a plan, you can download and print one here prior to your appointment.

How to use your inhaler

To make sure you are getting the best from your inhalers, please visit and watch the demonstration videos from Asthma UK.

Peak flow meter

Prior to your review, we will provide a prescription for a peak flow meter. This is a useful way of monitoring your own asthma at home, and the nurse will advise you how and when to use it.

Click for instructions and a peak flow diary for you to use.

Reducing the environmental impact of inhaler use

Pressurised metered dose inhalers (pMDI) contain propellants that contribute to global warming. Dry powder inhalers (DPI) do not use these propellants and have substantially lower global warming potential.

Over the coming year, we will be asking patients to try a change to DPIs – if most of our patients make this change, we estimate this will significantly reduce our practice’s carbon footprint.
